EMS Special Events Team
West Metro’s EMS Division has established a special events team to provide Advanced Life Support coverage to community events. The team consists of sixty paramedics utilizing specialized equipment to provide rapid and seamless care to event patrons. Team members have the ability to access a variety of areas in differing crowd situations. The team has at its disposal a specially equipped ATV, golf cart and mountain bikes to reach victims quickly. In 2008, the Special Events Team provided coverage for 91 events including all large gatherings at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The team contacted over 650 patients in 2008 and provided care as simple as a Band-Aid and as complex as a major heart attack. Use of the team allows West Metro to keep other resources in service for the community at large and provides a great opportunity for our employees to interact with the public.
In 2008 the team took delivery of a new Polaris Ranger 6x6 all-terrain utility vehicle. This vehicle was specially outfitted to accommodate an EMS patient and an attending paramedic. The vehicle, its trailer, and its equipment were all obtained at no cost to West Metro’s taxpayers through a grant from USST and through sponsorship from MedExpress. The vehicle is used at special events and also to access patients on the off-road bike trails and walking paths that are located throughout our area.
