Fire Chief McBee
Fire Chief Douglas McBee is in his 32nd year with the professional fire service in Colorado. He is in his sixth year as Fire Chief of West Metro Fire Protection District and is proud of his organization. West Metro Fire Rescue is the largest Special Fire District in Colorado, serving a population of 265,000 citizens and over 110 square miles, comprised of the City of Lakewood, Town of Morrison and unincorporated Jefferson and Douglas Counties. It is the third largest professional fire agency in Colorado with 15 fire stations; administrative headquarters; a fleet maintenance facility; a dispatch facility; 340 professional firefighters; 59 civilian employees; and, an annual budget of $67 million. Chief McBee has served as the interim Finance Director as well as Fire Chief and championed a successful Bond and Mill election in May of 2006.
Prior to coming to West Metro Fire Protection District in March of 2004, Douglas McBee served 27 years with the Aurora, Colorado Fire Department. He is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program, has an Associate’s Degree from Red Rocks College in Fire Science, a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management from Fort Lewis College, and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado.
Chief McBee has over 20 years of extensive management and command experience in the fire service. He is a trained instructor for all levels of NIMS/ICS and is on the executive committee for the CFAI mentoring program as well as a previous nationally Certified Fire Investigator.
Chief McBee is the Sponsoring Agency Chief for COTF 1, FEMA Urban Search and Rescue and a member of the Legal Working Group for US&R. Chief McBee serves as a member of the Executive Board for the Colorado State Fire Chiefs' Association, Colorado Fallen Firefighters Foundation and is past president of the Denver Metro Fire Chiefs' Association. He is also a charter member of the Belmar Kiwanis Club and Community Relations Board for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
